1. Melasma

Treatment: Nd:YAG 1064nm laser toning, IPL, Topical and Oral medications, ID skincare range

Melasma appears as a symmetrical blotchy, brownish pigmentation on the face. The pigmentation is due to overproduction of melanin by the pigment cells, melanocytes. It can lead to considerable embarrassment and distress.

2. Freckles

Treatment: Nd:YAG 532nm laser, IPL, Topical and Oral medications, ID skincare range

Freckles are small flat brown marks arising on the face and other sun exposed areas. They are most often seen in fair skinned people, especially those with red hair, but they are an inherited characteristic that sometimes affects darker skin types as well.

3. Sun spots & Age spots

Treatment: Nd:YAG 532nm laser, IPL, Topical and Oral medications, ID skincare range

Also known as lentigines. They are due to localised proliferation of melanocytes. The most common type, solar lentigines, arises in middle age and also results from sun damage (age spots). They are most often found on the face and hands, and are larger and more defined than freckles. Lentigines tend to persist for long periods and don't disappear in the winter (though they may fade).

4. Tattoo Removal

Treatment: Nd:YAG 1064nm laser

Blue, grey and black tattoos can be removed with a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm wavelength). The colour of the tattoo and the depth of the pigment influence the duration and the outcome of the laser treatment. Laser treatment involves the selective destruction of ink molecules that are then absorbed by macrophages and eliminated.
